Although I have purposely used the term "Indian Music" in order to facilitate the access to the site through search engines, I am fully aware of its lack of accuracy as it encompasses Northern and Southern classical (Shastriya) music (Rag Sangeet), but also all different types of traditional religious and profane musical forms as well as film music, pop etc.
This site only deals with North Indian Classical Music - Hindustani Rag Sangeet, also named Hindustani Shastriya Sangeet.
This Site is a portal - a summary - of the main Site whose principal section "Indian Music" is dedicated to a consequent fund of audio, video, photograph, rag descriptions & compositions archives.
You really enter into a huge web library and, believe me, I'm not joking.
Audio archives (mp3) are full of musical treasures as you will find recordings - especially regarding vocal music - of cylinders and 78 rpm discs dating early 1900.
At the time I am writing these lines, i.e. december 26, 2012, the audio & video archives fund comprises of 801 vocalists and instrumentalists that you may listen, watch and download to your heart's content.
You will also find 888 photographs and plenty of documentation (although sometimes in french language as far as published articles and rag-s descriptions are concerned). You'll need days and days to browse through the whole contents !
Although a fair amount of archive is freely available to "visitors", you should "register" to have access to the entire collection and that will also entitle you to the monthly Newsletter thus letting you know about the latest add-ons and site updates. Needless to say that the registering process is totally free of charges.
Please, never upload videos & audio files to YouTube or the like. Managing the Site means lots of work, time, costs money (Server, CMS extensions) and bringing archives to YouTube for getting a personal "fame" of a highly frequented YT channel - done on the work of others - kills Site traffic.
My greatest desire is to promote North Indian musical culture, a very modeste contribution indeed, in regard to the immense debt of gratitude I owe to indians who have nurtured me and allowed me to learn at their feet for thirteen years, from 1970 to 1983, until the obtention of a Doctorate of "Performance and Compositions" in sitar, from the Facutly of Performing Arts of Banaras Hindu University.
