Ashok Moitra is a tabla player from Banaras. He received his training from Chhotelal Misra, his brother-in-law and, later on, from Pandit Kishan Maharaj. We used to be neighbours in Durga Kund, Varanasi - I could say we grew up together. He is a friend. His site's design (in Flash ?) is superb and I wish I could have done as well. You may learn a number of things on tabla gharana-s. Good browsing. |

Theoretical explanations on Hindustani Classical Music
An excellent site made by "Sadhana". Everything, in this site, is great : its design, its clarity, its explanations, its audio and video examples. A truly pedagogic site explaining how Hindustani Rag Sangeet works. I love the tal part with its elegant and clever videos - like a watch with its needle progression showing the matra number (although, as its author mentions, it is not always syncronized with the audio). This visual idea alone is truly great. The best of its kind for an introduction to this genius musical system. |
