Rag Vasant Mukhari

Although rattached to Bhairav That, characterized by a minor 2nd (komal re) and a minor 6th (komal dha), Vasant Mukhari's first tetrachord is of Bhairav with minor 2nd (komal re) and second tetrachord is of Bhairavi (E mode) with minor 6th (komal dha) and minor 7th (komal ni). It is therefore an hybrid raga, originating from South India. As for most of these  imported raga-s in Hindustani music, it has not really retained the traditional characteristics (notes treatment and movements) it has in Karnatak music and is relatively easy to render although it mainly grooves around the fifth (pa) which is the bahutva svar (main note) of this rag.

PROBLEMES D'ACCES AU SITE / SITE ACCESS PROBLEMS

Désolé de n'avoir pu sortir de NewsLetter en Février. Le site m'a causé de gros soucis. J'ai eu la surprise de constater que, lorsque j'essayais de me connecter sur le site, je n'avais plus qu'une page blanche la plupart du temps. Le cauchemar du WebMaster ! Il m'arrivait également de ne même plus pouvoir me connecter en "back-end" c'est à dire sur l'interface qui me permet de gérer le site. J'ai donc dû contacter mon hébergeur à plusieurs reprises. Je me suis vu répéter que j'avais atteint les limites des ressources du serveur "mutualisé" sur lequel j'étais hébergé. En effet, les visites quotidiennes des "personnes physiques" (autour de 100 par jour) ne représentent que le sommet de l'iceberg car la plupart des ressources proviennent d'accès direct au serveur et sont générées par les Robots (Google, Yahoo etc.), les Bots, XMap, ainsi que les différents plug-ins et extensions de Joomla ce qui fait monter les visites à un nombre avoisinnant 1 200 à 1 600 par jour. Bref, un peu comme pour les abonnements de téléphonie mobile, ils me poussèrent à prendre des abonnements de plus en plus onéreux qui seraient plus puissants. C'est ce que je fis à 3 reprises en février : d'un abonnement "Classique" (71,64€ an), je changeai pour "Illimité" (100,32€ an) et enfin (malgré l'illimité, en fait tout à fait limité), en  "Business" (143,40€ an) SANS QUE LE PROBLEME NE SOIT RESOLU. La haine ! L'hébergeur me dit alors, qu'après enquête de leurs services, il me fallait absolument passer, pour résoudre le problème, sur un serveur "dédié", coutant  la modique somme de 430,44€ par an ! Désolé ! A moins de reprendre les braquages je n'en ai vraiment pas les moyens. Ce site me prend déjà beaucoup de temps, d'énergie et, mis à part la vente de mes livres, il n'est pas un site marchand. A tout point de vue, il me coûte.

Alors, refusant le dictat de l'hébergeur, je dûs retrousser les manches en farfouillant dans l'architecture du Site et pris un temps infini à alléger les ressources. Procédant par élimination et essais successifs de changements des paramètres, et avec, en fin de parcours, l'aide d'Othman Louati, il semble que le problème ait été réglé - tout au moins momentanément. Mais je sais que c'est bien fragile.

- Vous désirez que ce site continue à exister ? Vous pouvez contribuer à sa pérennité. Restez calme ! Je ne vais pas vous demander de me filer une poignée de dollars !  QUITTEZ le site une fois votre consultation terminée. Cela libérera des ressources et permettra à un autre visteur de se connecter. Donc, pas d'onglet du site ouvert sur votre navigateur. CONSULTEZ ET QUITTEZ. S'il vous plait, rappelez-vous de le faire.

Sorry for not having been able to bring out February NewsLetter. Lots of problems with the site. I had the surprise to notice that, when connecting on the site, I was most of the time, getting a white page. The webmaster's nighmare ! Moreover, I could not often connect on the "back-end" of the site, the interface where I manage the site. I therefore had to contact several times my Web Hosting Service. Each time, I was told that I had reached and exceeded the available ressources of the "mutualized" hosting server and that I had to go for better and costlier subscriptions. Thus, the daily number of "physical persons" connecting on the site (100 of average) is not at all indicative of the real number of  direct accesses visits to the root of the server. These are generated by Robots (Google, Yahoo and others), horrible Bots, XMap, Joomla plug-ins, components and extensions. In all, the site generates an average of 1 200-1 600 visits daily. To make it short, like they do in France for Mobile phones subscriptions and band-width usage, my Web Hosting Service pushed me to upgrade my subscription which I did thrice in February. From my "Classical" subscription (71,64€ yearly), I went for "Illimited" (100,32€ yearly) which, by the way is only illimited by name and then, at last, for a "Business" account (143,40€ yearly) supposed to be the best of mutualized solutions. THAT DID NEVER SOLVE THE PROBLEM ! You may well imagine in what state of mind I was. Feeling to blast the whole Web ! The Web Hosting provider then told me that there was only one thing to do to solve the problem for good : I had to go for a "dedicated" server subscription costing 430,44€ per year. Well. Sorry. Too costly for me unless I start a new life as a bank robber. This site already takes me enough of time, energy and money to manage. Apart from the sale of my books, it is definitely not a retail website. Alright to be a proselyte but not a looser !

So, refusing their "offer", I went into the back-end of the site to find out how I could manage to low-down ressources. It took me a hell of a time to change many parameters and watch out for its effects. With a final "little help from my friend" Othman Louati, we finally succeeded in fixing it but the thing is limit and a bit weak.

- If you wish this site to be long-lasting and ever-growing, you may contribute your own way. Now, feel easy, I am not going to ask you for an handfull of bucks ! You may just do one thing : when you finish browsing, just QUIT the site. Don't keep a live tab. Just QUIT. That will free some ressources and allow some other visitor to connect. Please, remember to do that. Do it !

They have all been written in Bhatkhandeji's svaralipi - music notation system - the only suitable way to write down Indian Music. Cet ouvrage présente 454 gata-­s ou thèmes instrumentaux sur 164 raga-­s. Ils proviennent de diverses sources : Pandit Lal Mani Misra, de Dr. K. C. Gangrade, de ses anciens maîtres, mes propres thèmes composés pour le doctorat de sitar, etc. Ils sont écrits dans le système de Pandit Bhatkhande (svarlipi), le seul parfaitement adapté à la notation de la musique de l’Inde. Son apprentissage est ludique et facile : il suffit de mémoriser 12 signes (7 notes de musique et 5 signes de métrique correspondant aux mouvements du plectre ou de l’archet) ! Heu ... rêveriez-vous d'écrire une sonate ou un thème de jazz en notation indienne ? Enfin, pas besoin d'avoir une agreg d'anglais pour comprendre le texte, essentiellement composé de thèmes.

Le seul véritable challenge pour le lecteur sera de donner vie à ces squelettes de thèmes. Use the internal search engine of the site (moteur de recherche interne du site) to find a rag, an artist or the 2 monthly updated pdf files in which audio / video archives have been sorted out by rag and by artist !

There is one limitation to the internal search engine and I could not yet find out how to resolve it : Search engine doesn't look WITHIN the playlists (audio/video). Thus, It won't give you ALL references of a given rag on the site. Please bare with that for the time being.

Utilisez le moteur interne du site pour trouver un rag, un artiste ou les 2 pdf qui sont mensuellement mis à jour et qui sont triés par rags et artistes.

Il y a néanmoins une vraie limitation sur le moteur interne de recherche et je n'ai, jusqu'à présent, pas su trouver un moyen de la contourner : Le moteur de recherche ne va jamais chercher DANS les Playlists audio/video. Ce qui fait que vos recherches sur le nom d'un rag ne seront pas précises et complètes. Je vous demande de faire avec jusqu'à ce je parvienne à trouver une solution technique.

S'il vous plait ! ne postez pas les vidéos et mp3 du site sur YouTube ou d'autres... Cela tue la fréquentation du site. Croyez-moi, si j'avais désiré poster sur YT, je l'aurais fait et cela m'aurait épargné une tonne de boulot par rapport au site et à ses mises-à-jour.

Please, do not post site videos and mp3 on YouTube and the like. It kills Site's traffic. Believe me, if I had wanted to post on YT, I would have done it myself and it would have spared me a tremendous hell of a time managing & updating the site !
